With Fourth Of July right around the corner, we wanted to share some tips to ensure that your residents make the most out of the holiday while staying safe.

From fireworks to BBQ’s – it is imperative to take some precautionary measures:

Fireworks

Fireworks are against the law in many states and can be quite hazardous to your property and the surrounding areas. Clearly communicate to your residents  the risk associated with fireworks to prevent potential dangers.

Barbecues

Avoid adding fuel to the fire (literally). Combine fireworks with BBQs and you have an even greater risk, which can be particularly threatening in multifamily housing.  It is imperative that residents practice proper safety measures and ensure that some operates the grill carefully. Distribute signs about the fire danger associated with barbecues and chat with your residents on the proper grilling execution.

Noise Complaints

It’s no surprise people can be a little rowdy on the 4th. To avoid complaints, post notices in your common areas or email residents a reminder of your set quiet hours, and caution against loud music in outside areas, or gatherings of too many people.

Pools

Everyone wants some fun in the sun and this holiday presents a prime opportunity for a dip in the pool. Ensure the property pool is suitably staffed with lifeguards for the weekend and also make sure signs are up (maybe add a few extra) that reinforce safety rules and regulations.

Communication

It’s essential to have clear communication between you and your guests. A friendly e-blast to your residents will go a long with – simply reinstate the policies, provide safety guidelines and also consequences should the rules be broken.

It’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the holiday, but it’s also important to take the time to prevent the risks to keep both you, your residents and your property safe and sound.

Wishing everyone a happy and safe Independence Day!
